I want to open an FTP site in windows explorer so I can copy folders.

I log into the site (ftp://upload.comcast.net/) and then I select Page / "Open FTP site in windows explorer"

It successfully opens a windows explorer window "FTP root at upload.comcast.net", but that window seems to be in internet explorer format, not in windows explorer format. There are no folders that are draggable. I have the same directory listing that I had in original webbrowser
Code:
FTP root at upload.comcast.net
To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer.

As you can see it looks identical to an IE explorer window (that has blue e as an icon). But it shows up in my windows explorer window (that has a folder as an icon). It is very odd and annoying. I simply want to copy my files on FTP and windows IE explorere is not showing me any way to do it.

Please help.

No response?
Am I in the wrong forum? Wrong site?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks for response. This was very frustrating for me.... can't do something I could do easily 6 or 7 years ago because some hidden setting or something has changed. I googled and found several people had problems with XP accessing FTP from internet explorer... but their problems were all an error message rather than seeing a useless html directory display (rather than draggable folders) in windows explorer (after I had used page / open-in-windows-explorer from internet explorer).

2 or 3 hours of wasted time.. I gave up. Core FTP LE is free, recommended by Cnet.. installed in 2 minutes and doing what I wanted to do in the first place in 2 more minutes.

Ugh.

You may want to try a free FTP package that will allow you to do what you want to do i.e. Filezilla

Thanks. That is what I did... about 12 hours before you posted ;-)

Hi electricpete, thought I'd reply although a little late.
This functionality seemed to stop working with IE8, maybe even IE7. It is supposed to work and there kb articles saying tick this box and that box etc in advanced internet options, but I have never been able to get it to work. its not just you!!

I'm sure it works for anyone judging by the amounts of forum posts all across the web.

Fingers crossed, it works in IE9!

oh praise the lord! ha.
in IE9, open the FTp sitre we've all done previously in8 to get the list of files, then hit Alt to get the menu bar > View > Open FTP site in Windows Explorer.
love it! love it! love it!

(easily pleased!)
