mail.yahoo.com keeps coming up with HTTP 500 error

Does anyone know what may be causing this?

Try using IE in 'no add-ons' mode. Right click on your desktop or start menu icon and choose "Browse without add ons" or Start, Run, iexeplore.exe -extoff, OK

Yes did that

also run onecare, defender, RKR, norton 360 scans ... nothing found.

This has been like this for 4 days now and only appears to be affecting Yahoo Mail

What is suspicious is that I turned off the firewall/antivirus and then connected the very first time ... all attempts after that failed

Have you tried using another browser such as Firefox, Safari, Chrome, or Opera?

That would at very least tell you whether the problem was IE-specific or whether it was something else.

Well here is the final story ... this problem was a family members issue and I was attempting to resolve this over long distance ... well I finally found someone to talk to at yahoo (online chat help buried deep in their help site) ... I explained to the tech that we had been experiencing difficulties for the last 4 days with mail.yahoo.com ... he told me understandably that yahoo couldn't help me as I wasn't the registered user and to get the registered user to contact them directly.

So I called my family member about 5 minutes after this chat and without doing anything further yahoo mail miraculously started working.

At this point the only thing I can imagine is this tech found some issue and corrected it on their end after I was finally able to bring it to their attention.

Thanx for the suggestions.

I don't think Yahoo has fixes for particular users. It's just a coincidence

Cheers,
Dian

It's much more likely the family member was being daft and they are too embarrassed to tell you... either that, or they happened to do something different and didn't realise it.

No sorry there was nothing different done ... I spent >4 hours remotely connected attempting to find the culprit ... the machine was also off when I chatted with the yahoo tech plus had tried the process earlier in the day after the Norton VUNDO virus remover had finished and not found anything ... it was still having the same issue.

All I was going to do was to get a new chat session established when we decided to try the mail one more time and it came up. All I did was connect to it remotely then start yahoo mail. No different then the last 4 days of no connection.
