Ok folks, here's one....every time I try to run a Java applet from IE7, I get a runtime error and all my IE windows close. So far, I've tried:
Uninstalling all versions of JRE and rebooting, downloading latest version of JRE, rebooting - No avail.

Un-checking Sun JVM in IE options - This just yields "no plugin" messages from sites with applets.

Starting IE with no-add ons - Again, i get the "no plugin" error (expected!).

Uninstalled Google Toolbar - This stops the "runtime error" appearing, now IE just closes...awesome!

I can find a bunch of info about the error if I google it, but no solution.

Anyone any ideas?...anyone?...

As always, TIA...

Nope. The interesting thing is that this only happened since the new version of IE7 was released. So much for it being a "critical update".

do you have Sun Java installed? not the MS java version.

eyec - Yes, and i also tried it with the MS version.

smah - No - i get an error saying the plugin is missing when using the no add ons option.

OK, that makes sense (and apparently you told us that in the original post [blush])

IE7 closing & crashing is very often caused by an incompatible add-on or something that interacts with parts of IE. Possibly something that you wouldn't expect - Antivirus software (norton toolbar?) or some other [seemingly non-related] add on. Other than trial and error, I'm out of specific ideas. Do you have the text of the original Runtime error?

UPDATE: So it's deifinitely some funky process that's causing my pain. I basically just killed any process i didn't recognise and presto changeo...Java applets started working again. Now I just need to find the time to figure out exactly which process is causing the issue.

Thanks for th epointers, if anyone is interested, i'll post back which process was causing the issue (when i find out!).
