Howdy there.

Is there a way to create a batch file or script to open IE7, and open up a couple different sites in seperate tabs immediately upon opening?

I've had a couple different users ask this of me, and I've got to say, it would be handy to have it myself, for some of the monitoring I do.

This isn't neccessarily something we want to auto-start at login, but would like to have a couple different shortcuts to run.

I personally would like to open two sites in one browser, and three in another, without having to manually do it.

Any ideas? I'd think it would be possible, since IE7 has the option to re-open tabs on the next load (if you choose to when closing multiple tabs at once).

For the tabs you wish to open, why not open them all at once in one browser, by listing them in 'Home Page' in Internet options

Alternatively, you can use a folder within your Favorites to contain the appropriate links. Then simply right click on the Favorites folder and select 'Open in tab group'. I haven't figured out a way to do this from command line (aka batch file).

ASG0856: That alternative has been discussed, but some don't want ALL of the tabs in a single browser, nor do they wish all of the tabs to open every single time they open a browser.

smah: Where do you turn on the functionality you describe? If I right-click on a Favorites folder, I don't have that option - I simply have open, and that opens an Explorer window of the folder.

Sorry, you'll have to have to do this within IE7. Then open the Favorites Center & right click on the folder....

Gotcha.

I was in IE7, but going to Favorites by way of the toolbar/menubar.

That might have to be the workaround for the time being.

If anyone knows of a way to script/batch this, I'd be most appreciative.

The other part, as you'll see, is that these are added after the original tab. It would be nice if a blank tab would go away or be reused, but it's not.

To enable tabbed browsing in IE7:
Tools->Internet Options - on the GENERAL tab, TABS section, click the "Settings" button and check the "Enable tabbed browsing" checkbox.

Mike:

Thanks, but I know how to enable tabs, and they're already enabled.

Please read the question next time.

Thanks.
