Hi
I'm wondering about upgrading a staff member's machine to use IE7. The machine has an XP pro operating system, and Office 2000.

Is anyone aware of issues when installing IE7 on an XP pro operating system? or compatibility issues with Office 2000?

I have both (XP pro 64). It works. I don't particularly like it, but it works. Issues I have had include the program's refusal to replace the default search with Google (It won't work from the task bar options..reverts to MSN search, but it can be done from the tools menu) and the programs insistence on verifying every #$#%@$$ certificate and warning for every website including my very own with a format that makes you thik you don't dare. I wrote about how to get rid of that elsewhwere. Also took me two days to crack the FTP process, and the extra layer of access required is a pain in the neck.

May I respectfully suggest keeping your buddy on IE6, just in case FTP is an issue or the odd site insists on IE (I think upgrade does) and trying the latest version of Thunderbird instead. Much more satisfactory program all round. Really. Free, too.

I've been using IE7 for a while now on both XP and Vista and in general i'm pretty happy with it.

There are a couple of little quirks I don't like but then that's the same with all software. It can't be all things for all people.

It sounds like jlockley is having a bad time with it but I have not experienced the problems with certificates.

In my opinion I would say to upgrade.

I haven't experienced any issues since upgrading from IE6 to IE7. If you do there is always the uninstall procedures. A image backup of the actual operating system's partition would ensure an extra safety net.

Some of my users have an issue, where they can't print e-mail headers from outlook (with html emails) but its only some people and only some emails

Micorsoft are aware of this but have no hotfix yet

Some addins may need to be downloaded again like google tool bar and flash

here are the release notes

if your staff member's machine has any proprietary software on it. IE7 may make it rough going and you may end up going back to IE6...Example ...Older versions of Quickbooks, some older software that uses the IE6 engines...some very expensive medical billing software...the Wintotal appraisal software currently crashes...so you need to look a little bit more then just the office 2000....there are some issues with older Outlook and IE7
