IE7 and dropdowns

I can't believe this so maybe someone can help.

I just installed the standalone version of IE7 RC1 yesterday to see how it handled various pages.

Just been to a site I made that has dropdowns and they don't seem to work. When ever I click on one teh popup blocker kicks in and won't display the choices (this is a select by the way not a drop down menu). Has anyone else seen this behaviour?

Have a look at and try the selects, they just won't work (this isn't one of my sites, but it still doesn't work so it isn't my coding).

Any clues??

Richard

Do you have an onchange event on your select element? Does the problem go away if you remove it?

I note that the HTML on the site you gave the link for is very broken, so wouldn't go using that as a reference site (for example, the select element has a "scrolling" attribute that just doesn't exist, as well as many, many other errors).

Hope this helps,
Dan

Thanks Dan,

I have checked one of my pages that certainly doesn't have an onchange event and the same happens.

Look at which is one of mine and definitely validates and see what happens. I think it might be the standalone version I have that's doing it but obviously can't be sure. I want to keep both ie6 and ie7 at the moment for testing purposes which is why I am using the standalone version. It's a shame Microsoft don't let you do proper installs of IE7 without losig IE6, especially for us developers that need to think about both versions.

Well - I've just tried that URL on the latest version of IE 7 on Windows Vista, and the select element can be clicked on with no problem.

Perhaps you have a beta / non-final version?

Thanks Dan,

It must be a problem with the standalone RC1 version I'm using. I know not all things do work in that version.

Oh well, looks like I'll have to install the final version when it comes out and use a standalone ie6 for testing.

just tried the link you gave & it worked fine with IE7 Final release on XP.

Thanks for having a look everyone.

I have installed IE7 final and everything seems fine, so it must have been something wrong with teh standalone version I had.

I've also installed a stadalone version of IE6 so I can test pages in both versions (as well as firefox obviously) and all seems ok.
