I am running Internet Explorer 6.0 and Windows 98 Second Edition. When I click on a Javascript object, I get an error message, instead of the new window which is supposed to launch.

I have gone through the security tab and enabled all the scripting and java, etc. options (and rebooted, too).

For example, go to and look in the upper right corner for the "book viewer" Enter a symbol (GE, for example) and click the blue arrow to the right. Normally, a new window is launched.

However, I get an error message (I have this feature turned on) that says:

Error: The callee (server [not server application]) is not available and disappeared; all connections are invalid. The call did not execute.
Code: 0

In another program, the clickable objects are designated (this shows up at the bottom of IE6): javascript:winopen(' ...') or Javascript:pmwinopen('...") or other javascript calls.

(Firewall - Zonealarm is turned off)

I do notice that javascript:alert('stuff here') does work properly.

do you have virtual machine installed (ie6 no longer installs it automactically) if not got java.sun.com and download their java package (better than VM anyway). I tried the site you mentioned and it worked fine. If you want to microsofts vm then try:

turn off script debugging in internet options--->advanced and also turn off display a notification about every script error.

The sun java package runs externally to IE and seems stable except in windows xp where vm is faster.

You cannot download Microsoft Virtual Machine from microsoft anymore as they lost their court case with sun microsystems. If it annoys Microsoft then it's worth doing, and doing well!!
