Hi,
I'm running a windows98 machine. I have recently installed a high speed internet access ISP (RoadRunner - Cable Modem. However, Internet Explorer 6 won't open. I keep getting a the send error report page. I've tried uninstalling ie6 and reverting to the previous version (including going into the registry and erasing the migration key), but that gives me a navigation cancelled page. I've faced this error before, the resolution was formatting the drive, and reinstalling everything. I would like to avoid that this time around.

Any ideas.

Thanks.

Okay...workaround first. Disable error reporting.
(taken from MS Support article :

In Registry Editor (Regedit.exe), create a DWORD value called IEWatsonEnabled and set it to 0 in the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

See if that gets you into IE. Update to SP1, if you haven't already.
Of course, something was setting the function off in the first place, so best find out what. A good place to start is to download Spybot ( and be sure you don't have any spyware, etc. on your machine...kill it if you do. This sort of thing often often sets off this error reporting function.

Post back and let us know how things went...

thanks,
the computer is actually my friends, so when i get a chance to go over there, i'll give it a try and let you know.
