I have Windows XP SP2. I have IE6 installed. When I try to go to any page in IE6, nothing happens. If I select a site from my favorites or if I type a site in the address bar, nothing happens, it just sits there and displays my home page (about:blank) and just shows "Done" in the status bar. What do I do? I have had this problem a million times, to fix it, I have to use System Restore. I get this problem after I install most programs. I have to restore to before I installed that program. The latest program I've installed that's messed up IE6 was OpenOffice.org. I've restored to before I installed OOo, then reinstalled it, but IE6 still has problems. I also had this problem when I installed Office 97. What can I do to fix IE and not have to keep using System Restore?

Try running the Disk Cleanup tool to clean up your Temporary Internet Files and other Temp files.

Internet Explorer Fix

Removing adware & spyware
FAQ608-4650

Make sure your options in IE/ Tools/ Internet Options/ Advanced are correct.

Uncheck the boxes for "Install on Demand" for IE and Other programs (two boxes).

Try running temporarily with the third box "Enable Third Party Browser Extensions" unchecked and see how this goes.

"This specifies that you want to disable features you installed for use with Internet Explorer that may have been created by companies other than Microsoft.
If you encounter problems with Internet Explorer that you cannot resolve, you can use this option to help determine if third-party features are causing the problems without uninstalling the feature. You must restart Internet Explorer after turning this option on or off."

If that stops your errors, you will know where the trouble is.

I ran the IEFix tool, and checked for spyware. That didn't work. What else can I do?

WinXP Connectivity Issues

You can see if any connections are possible via Safe Mode With Networking. Try Normal Mode as a different user in case a corrupt profile is behind your problem.

How to troubleshoot problems accessing secure Web pages with Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 2

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
