IE6 Won't display web pages

I'm got win xp Pro running on my laptop with ie6..... I've got a cable modem for internet connection and it won't let me see web pages.... i can ping everything in the world at the command prompt i can tracert everything i've tried release/renew....I've changed everysetting in ie6 to match some of the other compters here at home and it still won't display them.....i get a dns error message at the bottom.....what it the world am i doing wrong? all my other computers work just fine....but my laptop is the only one with win xp on it any ideas would be good...thanks

Try typing in a site's IP address (e.g. 207.46.134.222 for

http://www.microsoft.com)?

If there's just something amiss with DNS translation, you should be able to get to the site.
If that doesn't work, try installing another browser (Opera is a relatively small download) and see if that works.

I've tried that too and it still won't go through..... I know it's something wrong with explorer but I don't know if it's defective? or if i just need to re-install it or some kind of bug

Don't reinstall yet...try the repair tool. Directions on how are here:
