This problem is very similar to the Loads Slow From Taskbar problem someone else mentioned, but I've done a bit more sleuthing. When I type a URL into IE6.0.2600.0000.xpclient.010817-1148 on Win XP Pro, if I omit the protocol identifier ( IE pauses for several seconds before attempting to load the desired page. If I type the full URL w/ protocol identifier, or click a link on an existing page, I have no speed issues whatsoever.
My network connectivity works flawlessly, DNS resolution for all other network services (command-line utils, Outlook, ICQ, and all other IP-enabled apps) works just fine and without pause. I have the 'Disable searching from the address bar option' set. Clearly this is some odd IE behavioral issue and is not network related.
I'm not running any strange browser helper objects other than the Acrobat plugin.
Anyone have *any* thoughts on this? I've poured through the registry looking for anything useful, and have yet to find anything.
I also just realized that I have inline AutoComplete on, which also pauses for many seconds before showing completion values regardless of whether I input the protocol identifier.
Thanks for any help.
Eric
