Clicking View->Source fails to display the source HTML in the chosen web editor. Any ideas?

Does it matter? You never give any feedback or appreciation to a post anyway, so no-one knows if it was of any help or not. The solution is out there. [morning]

Thank you marcs41. Ouch!

You raise a sensitive issue and have made a valid point to which I must respond. I am not a rude inconsiderate person so why do I so obviously appear to be so? The reason is that many replies, while no doubt well meant, are rather less than helpful. How do I thank someone when I really ought to be candid which might only give offence to someone who is in all likelihood a decent helpful person?

I have actually responded to those replies which have proved to be useful or are self-evidently valid. Should I be cruel to be kind and so cause hurt to the others?

I have also replied to other threads, I hope with benefit to others. I was only being helpful but also aware that I might not be improving matters for the person with the problem. I can accept that I was offering my pathetic pearls of wisdom for a degree of self-gratification and would not have enjoyed a stinging rebuke if my efforts were a little wide of the mark (they probably were).

My dilemma with Tek-tips is that replies are unmoderated and taking up many of the suggestions will sometimes make the problem worse or introduce new problems.

There is no solution to this dilemma except to sort out my own problems or put up with those problems that, so far, have been quite trivial. I have, in fact, achieved a decent workaround to the problem which prompted this thread. I use Homesite5 which can open files from the web so copying the URL of the page of interest to Homesite provides a solution.

Anyway, that concludes my defence. I probably won't ask for any more help but I will carry on perusing Tek-tips for the occasional nugget.

Tek-tips does demonstrate one really good thing: the great majority of people are innately decent and helpful.

Well, you have a point in your defense, but I must say that if you reply to a 'non-helpful' post with just saying that, others may jump in and give a correct one.
I notice the threads with no replies, good or bad, no-one picks up as they believe that either the poster does not care or the problem is solved.
In any case, a final closure of a post would clarify matters.
If the tip does not work, say so, other learn as well.
If the tip does work, award it, other can use the tip and the person helping you gets motivated and feels praised.

PS: It was not ment as an offence, but it woke you up ;-) The solution is out there. [morning]

Thanks for the reply, marcs41.
I'm not sure if I can fulfil the exacting diligence requirement that others honour for the general benefit of all. This mutual help enterprise makes me brutally aware of my own technical knowledge deficiencies and the limited value of my contributions. Tek-tips is a jolly good thing but perhaps not entirely suitable for something who's chosen cover name is that of a major London railway station.
