ie6 problem playing embedded midi

Until about a week ago I was able to play midi files in my web pages with the embed tag. This has now stopped working, instead I get a pop up from quicktime saying

"No installation was necessary. The required software appears to be installed already"

So the question is what has gone wrong, I wasn't aware that quicktime had anything to do with playing embedded midi's. More imprortantly, how do I fix this.

When you install quicktime, it associates midi files with quicktime if you don't tell it not to. I personally haven't had any problem with embeded midis with ie and quicktime. You can try to uninstall and reinstall Quicktime to see if that fixes it. Or if that doesn't work keep it uninstalled.

Thanks, that does the trick. i hadn't unistalled quicktime because the first time I noticed that it didn't work it prompted me to download quicktime, which I did, suggesting that I hadn't got quicktime before. Anyway, it works again now which is great.
