I have posted this problem before but then just switched to Netscape. However I would like to go back to using IE but the problem is still there.

Previous post: I have a problem with IE 6. I have no Tool bar, no Address bar, and no navigation buttons. There is a very small grey area under the title bar but I can not click on this to bring enable any of the bars.

I have ran the repair for IE6 and tried reinstalling with no help.

I was told to by a follow up to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbars\Restrictions

Delete these entries:
NoAddressBar
NoToolBar
NoLinksBar

and most importantly:
NoToolbarOptions

now navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions
delete the NoNavButtons entry

BUT I did not have these options in my registry under internet explorer

Thanks for any help

Try the same sub-paths except with HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE instead of HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

If that doesn't work, maybe you can write a small vbscript that will turn your menus back on.

I can follow along with the sub-menus until I get to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\ and the only sub-menu under Microsoft is System Certificates. Same thing for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

Do you have this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions

Delete the entire Restrictions key.

Do you have a File,Edit,View,Favorites,Tools,Help entries on the menu?

I have everything up to Microsoft. The only submenu under Microsoft is SystemCertificates, no other folder besides that one.

I do not have any menus at all with IE6, I can see a real small grey area but it will not allow me to right click at all. I can take a screen shot of IE and email it to you just to show you what it looks like. Thanks for the help

Dwayne,

I don't recall the original question. was it posted here? Could you give me the link to the original? It looks like my suggestions.

Do you know when or how it happened?
Did you install anything new?

Open regedit and go to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions

What's listed? Look for specific names such as RealGuide, Net2Phone, Google, Hotbar, MSN Messenger, Gator, etc.
I'd suggest going to Add/Remove programs and uninstalling these if you don't want them.

Right-click on the IE desktop icon, choose properties, click the Advanced tab and uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions".

If you're familiar with DOS, you do this:
It will totally clean everything.

Click Start, click Shut Down, click Restart In MS-DOS Mode, and then click OK.

At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command, and pressing Y if you are prompted to confirm folder deletion:

cd\windows
smartdrv
deltree cookies
deltree history
deltree tempor~1
exit

The neccessary files and folders will be rebuilt at startup.
