Hi there,

One of my user machine, TCXPSP1, got problem in IE6 when using the "save password" feature, it only save the username, but it didn't save the password so when user hit the same website, he need to retype the password.

I followed KB306895 and checked that method1 & method2 already correctly setup, while trying method3, it didn't work because that pc couldn't find the file rsabase.dll, & I couldn't find that file on my own pc (eng wxpsp2) as well.
I tried method4 to create a new user for testing but it also didn't work, still the password cannot be saved (need to retype), only ther username field is saved (no need to retype).

Anyway I upgraded that TC machine to XPSP2, but didn't help.

Wondering what's wrong & how to fix it? Million thanks!

You can download a copy of the rsabase.dll from:
After that run this command to reregister the dll. I have never done this so I do not know how effective it is.

Primary Hard Drive Letter:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" /rereg

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

. Your KB article is inappropriate for IE 6.0.x
. If running XP Home edition instead of XP Pro, this is normal

Also, have a look at the following information. ALWAYS back up your registry before making any changes.

For information about working in the registry, see the following:
How to Back Up the Registry in Windows 98 [Q256419]

Verify that password caching is enabled. To do so, use Registry Editor to view the DisablePwdCaching DWORD value in the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Policies\Network

If password caching is disabled, the DisablePwdCaching DWORD value has a value data of 1. To enable password caching, change the value data to 0.

NOTE: If the DisablePwdCaching value does not exist, add this DWORD value with a data value of 0 to the registry key listed above.

Note that you may need to remove this value altogether, and then restart your computer to make caching work.

Also note that if you cancel out of the classic Windows log on, you won't be able to save passwords.

Hi bcastner,

Sorry for the missing ifo, it's a XP Pro SP2, TC version.

Anyway for other XP Pro SP2 Eng version, I checked that there's no "HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\network" keys there, but the save password working fine!

I alo didn't find those reg keys in TC, anyway I'll try to add & see how it goes.

Many thanks!
