I have an XP machine with IE6 installed. The favorites have disappeared from the list in IE but they are still in the profile. How do I get the favorites to show up in IE again.

I had exactly the same problem, but alas, never did work out what caused the problem and what prompted the problem to disappear...

I believe my problem may have been related to my running 4 browsers on 1 PC.

I cleared the IE cache, made IE the default browser, then made Mozilla the default browser, then made IE the default browser again (restarting the browser in each step), then copying the favourites to a temp directory, then restarting the machine, then copying the favourites back - the menu reappeared.

I then made Moz my default browser again (well, I could hardly stay with IE could I?!) and the IE favourites decided they would stay.

I have no idea if any of my haphazard steps cured the problem, but it's not reappeared :)

Hope this helps - love to hear if / how you get it back...Good luck!

If the folder exists and still contains your favorite locations, use Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) to check the Favorites entry under the following registry keys. Change the Favorites entries to point to the correct location of the Windows\Favorites folder if needed.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\Shell folders

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\User Shell folders

HKEY_USERS\.default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\Shell folders

HKEY_USERS\.default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\User Shell folders

I did the registry hack yesterday and the favorites showed up. I haven't heard anything from the user about them not being there today.
Thanks a lot.

I am working on a computer with XP home that got hit by lightning and I had to replace some components. The hard drive is intact but IE is not seeing the favorites. I did the registry edit and they still are not showing up under Favorites in IE. When I go to the C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Favorites, however, they are all listed there.

Any more suggestions?
