Am usind Win98(1st edition) and IE6 has recently started opening new windows minimised in a small square..how do I get them to open maximised, as they used to, please?

this is for ie5 but might work...it did for me!
Open a new window maximised (right click "open in new window" or windows from hyperlinks)
My friend Ronnie Vernon first posted this if I remember rightly.
Start IE5, right click any URL and select Open in a New Window.
Go back to the first IE5 window you opened and close it.
Return to the second window and manually drag it to fill the screen.
(Do not use the maximize button)
Close this second window, using the close box.
All IE5 windows should now open maximized.
Or here's an old trick...
Have window already open, but minimised to the taskbar. Drag the link down to the button, hold it there until the window opens then drop the link in.

or this may work.....
Internet Explorer Windows open 'off screen' or tiny or minimised to the taskbar. The window will not move if off-screen, and if resized by dragging or using the window buttons, does not keep the size set.
This trick should work.

Remove any 'Auto-hide' option for the taskbar and while the window is maximised, increase the height of the taskbar from one row to two. Allow the maximised window to reset itself to fit into the new area allowed by the taller taskbar. Now return the taskbar to its normal single row. This is to try to make Windows re-calculate the window size and boundaries.

If no joy, run regedit and remove these registry key values which are most likely corrupted:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\window_placement

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\internetexplorer\Desktop\Explorer\desktop\oldWorkAreas\OldWorkAreaRects

Then reboot.

Thanks lonnie61, your first suggestion of manually dragging the small window to fit the screen has done the trick..now all new windows open maximised. Your thorough advice is much appreciated.
