IE6sp1
Problem:
You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing Happens“ after You open a new Link” or getting error: not registered

Known problem with IEAK6

Lab Environment:
1- Problem happening only to those PC’s who would already have ie6sp1 installed. Ie. Pushing ie6.msi on top of IE v.6
2 -On PC’s who would have IE5.5 the upgrade msi works.

What I tried in the lab to fix this problem:
Ran IEAK6 once
*that creates Iebin\Optional\EN folder

Replaced Ie6wzd.exe with new version 6.0.2710.1100 that will fix this problem “You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing Happens“ after You open a new Link” or getting error: not registered

Then ran IEAK again which includes the new version of Ie6wzd.exe.

Copied Flat\win32\En Folder and paste it into your Distribution folder.

Copied and paste Ie6sp1gp.exe and Ie6sp1gp.msi from the MS Wrapper into your Distribution folder.

Modified your Ie6sp1gp.msi with ORCA; make sure it has the path for your Ie6sp1gp.exe

Whats the problem here?

1. copy/paste the below into notepad.exe and save as IE-fix.CMD

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll

You only need to run this once.

2. Do not use the IEK toolkit.

Start, Run, Iexpress

Surprise?

Sorry if this was unclear...
Windows 2000 enviroment.

Using IEAK6, I'm trying to create new push down and upgrade IE5 for my users.

Once the update completed I push down the new msi to pilot user (lab enviroment). Once the update completed with the push down (using active directory)if the PC previously had ie6sp1 the browser can't open new window.

here's the error:
You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing Happens“ after You open a new Link” or getting error: not registered

Thanks for the reply bcastner (very much appreciated)

I know the fix(Why does it unregistered all these dll's?

I can't aford to register all dll's on everyone's pc once I push it down. And sometime it doesn't even work.

I need a permanant solution in my MSI.

Any idea?

Can you not put the cmd file on the network(or incorporate it into your msi) then get it to run at the end of the install?

That would be my last option if I have no choice...

Why would it be your last option...it seems to be the only option unless you want do do it manually on every PC?

As per this Article: There IS a fix.

But it's not working:
Must me something I'm doing wrong, I'm hopping that someone could point out that maybe Microsoft is missing a step in the following article.

IEAK for Internet Explorer 6
A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.

To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the fix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services phone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

NOTE: In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:
Date Time Version Size File name
------------------------------------------------------
11-Oct-2001 19:45 6.0.2710.1100 189,440 Ie6wzd.exe

You can "push" the registration. As this might require Administrator credentials, you either:

. use "Runas"
. Create a wrapper. I use third-party tools to create the wrappers. (Install Shield Studio) but there are several other options.
. Did you try Start, Run, Iexpress? This is a very quick MS wrapper for IE patches.

If the DLL registration works to resolve the issue, then something has to be done to "push" the change.

I do not know the rights involved in your standard user setup, but in most cases they user will be asked an odd response if I just push the DLL registration through the logon script, and I sent them all an email that if it happens just say yes.

This is the wrapper that I've used with Administrator rights: I had no problem with the wrapper.
