IE6 crashes when trying to install downloaded files

I have a situation:

PC is running XP. The copy of IE6 (no SP1) on that machine would crash when files are downloaded and installation of those files start. So, I can't download and install IE6 SP1 or anything that is downloaded. Any ideas? Thanks!

I've already order the CD...just wondering what else I can do while waiting for it.
