I'm working on an XP machine was once riddled with spyware, and using a combination of AVG, HijackThis, Ad-aware SE & Spybot it now appears to be clean.

Using IE6 SP1, I get the "Page cannot be displayed" the first time I open up IE. Once I close that window and open it a second time it works fine. It's manageable, but annoying just the same.

I've gone through this routine a countless number of times, patiently waiting for each application to load on startup before opening IE.

Firefox beckons maybe?

Try the Disk Cleanup tool to delete your Temporary Internet Files. Manually remove any old System Restore points under the "More Options" tab of the tool too to prevent reinfection now that you are clean.

Clear out the remaining temp files from your user profile, C:\Documents and Settings\usernamexxxx\Local Settings\Temp

After you have run IEfix, let it run the System File Checker to check for any corrupted system files.
