IE6 browse bar drop down not working

Can anyone help with this? Win XP, IE6, can input url in the browse bar and all OK, but clicking the drop down produces no drop down. This is getting to be very inconvenient as the only other way to always typing in a URL is to use the history function.

The contents in the dropdown are based on the history files. If you happen to be very efficient in deleting your history, there won't be anything in your dropdown box.

You might have a damanged index.dat file for your History.
