Hi,

How come that during the same session I can save some web images as .bmp and other images as .jpg?
(I connect to the internet through the company firewall, 512k leased line). I wish to save all images as .jpg

I have seen the internet explorer solutions however they does not make sence because, as I said, some images can be saved as .jpg and others only as .bmp. Surely if the problem was IE6 then I would not be able to save any images as .jpg!?

Am I barking(steady) up the wrong tree, or is the 'problem' associated with IE6 or with the different web sites?

Many thanks,

In Internet Explorer, try going to Tools, Internet Options, Security, make sure Internet is highlighted, click and apply Default Level...post back if this does not help.

Hi,

Thanks for the help.
I am not using AOL.

I have restored the security level to default but still can only save as .bmp

Regards,

Ok...next stab at it...
...Try clearing all temporary internet files. You can do it manually via Windows Explorer or Tools, Internet Options, General, Delete Cookies, Delete Files....

Now try saving one of the pics that was giving you trouble...

Thanks very much for all the information.
I have tried all the suggestions and still the problem persists.

I also removed some Java applications but still no luck.

Would this be anything to do with IE6? Should I got back to 5.5?

It could be a 6.o issue...have you installed SP1??? If not, do so and see if problem persists (I should have asked you this straight out of the chute....)

I have installed the service pack and still no change.

I'm really starting to think that this problem is site related. Depending on the site some can be downloaded as .bmp only and some as .jpg or .bmp, here are two examples. (I work for a tour operator hence the sites)

.jpg or .bmp
.bmp only

Thanks for your help and patience.

Well...that was going to be my closing point, if everything else failed. Some sites simply dictate, by the nature of their construction, how you can download images. This is not to say that they implicitly restrict you, but rather the format that they used limits your options. Your only recourse, or workaround, is to download the image in the format(s) you are alloted and then, using something like Microsoft Photo Editor or Adobe Photoshop, save the image in the format of your choice.

Concerning the KB articles listed above. Did you delete all the activeX controls in Internet Options | Settings | View Objects.

I know that this fixed the problem on an XP machine I was using.

The articles say to only remove those that are damaged or unknown. I wasn't sure if you had removed them all.
