One of the computers in the office is acting strange, having problems accessing certain shared resources and will not open certain folders on the local drive (explorer stops responding).

One of the symptoms is that when you click on a link on say a google search results page you are taken to a totally different website.

The user has now moved to using Firefox instead of IE, but I would like to sort out this problem.

I cannot seem to find what is wrong with it, can anyone see anything in this hijack tihs log file???.

when you click on a link on say a google search results page you are taken to a totally different website.

Is it always the same website? Different every time? What is the URL?

Have you any internet / firewall software installed which could be filtering these (I notice several Symantec products listed above)?

It is not any specific url or website, I have tested the same search secnario on a different computer which is near enough the same and on the same network, it works fine. So this issue is specific to this computer.

I suspect that the IE browser has been infected or hijacked in some way, but I have not been able to find what it is.

Stephen

Running the latest S+Destroy and Adaware didn't help you? I see mention of Alexa in the hijack report you posted... is that maybe the culprit?

Cheers,
Jeff

Heres the registry locations, well 2 of them that show alot with internet explorer. Take a good look at them and you might find the culprit.

Hkey_current_user/Sofware/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main
(click on main to where its highlighted and look to your right)

Hkey_local_machine/Sofware/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main
(click on main to where its highlighted and look to your right)

Look around on these as you might find it in there.
