I am using a Dell Latitude D600 laptop with Windows XP wit IE version 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633. When I go and perform a search (any search), once the search resuls come up and I hover over a main link for the search result I get an error that says "Object doesn't support this property or method".

I could only find two knowledgebase articles. One about a product we do not use. And the other about strengthening security settings (KB #833633) which I tried and was unsuccessful with also.

I have downloaded and installed the latest version of the touchpad driver - but am using an external Microsoft Optical Mouse.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing my problem?

Thanks
Lori

Under "Help -> About IE" from the menu in your browser, what does it say your cipher strength is?

If it's showing as 128-bit, then that's not the problem. See if this link helps:
FRX Software FAQ

If you're still having problems, let us know:
1) Whether you're on a network (if not, then specify the kind of connection)
2) What settings you have under "Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings"
3) Whether you have a software firewall (like Zonealarm) installed and running

cdogg - Thanks for your response.

I thought I had included it in my original message, my cypher strength IS 128-bit. I have checked my LAN settings under Internet Options and all boxes on the screen are unchecked. I had already run Spybot and Ad-Aware thinking the same thing. Ran the CoolWebSearch Shredder and it found nothing.

1. I am on a network - using an internal NIC, Windows NT environment, 100mb connection going out a T1 to the internet.
2. As indicated above, all entries on this box are unchecked.
3. Running McAfee desktop firewall 8.0

Thanks,
Lori

Lori,

OK, here's what I need you to try. First of all, since you are on a network, I need you to verify that another PC with the same version of Windows and IE is not having the same problem. If another one checks out fine, then try the following:

1) Temporarily disable your McAfee firewall (exit completely out of it). Close and restart IE, then try again.

2) Compare any settings between a working PC and your laptop under "Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced". If any are different, make the change on yours to match it (also make a note of each change so that you can undo it later). Again, close IE and try again.

3) Under "Tools -> Internet Options -> Security", slide the level down to "Low" making sure Internet is selected at the top.

4) Go to the command line (Start->Run and type cmd). At the prompt, type jview and hit enter. The first line that appears should tell you what version of Java you're running. Make a note and post it back here.

If any of the above steps work, there's no need to go to the next because you've found your problem. Undo any changes that didn't help. If you do get to the 4th suggestion and still haven't seen any progress, I would suspect that IE is in fact corrupted. Still post back with the version of java and we'll go from there.

Good Luck!
