IE55 closes itself when loading certain URLs

When you type in the address or click on a link going to that address normally, the IE window (and process) closes itself. It just dissappears as if you clicked the 'x' button. No error, and the process terminates approprately.

This is an entirely NT4sp5 environment. Several different users are experincing the same problem for entirely different and unassociated links.

We've tried reinstalling IE55, running the repair tool, and even reinstalling SP5. Any ideas?

Are any of these users running a Window pop-up stopper type program? joegz

nope - definitely not the case. Our users can't install pretty much anything without Ops privs :)
