IE5 launch executable within an HTML40 page locally.

How can I get IE5 to launch a local executable file without it thinking the file must be downloaded first? I was able to run an app called the meaning of life for fun in IE4 as I recall at another job but now I can't. <br>

Is there any hope for me? This is my first post on Tek-Tips.
