IE5.5 wont leave home page

I have a clients pc, that will not leave the home page. Homepage is set to

http://www.murdercreek.com.

When you go to the title bar and type in say,

http://www.google.com,

it pulls up murdercreek.com, but will still have google in the addy bar. It does it for everything site that i have typed in. Its really got me puzzled. I have never seen this before. I thought that it was something with my DNS here at the shop, but then it would do it to all clients, and not just this one.

man, i am lost.......

what all have you done so far to try to fix it? there are so many different things to try i wouldn't know where to start. but, no i don't have the fix for it right off the top of my head except for IE repair tool, reset defaults scan for spyware ect.

i have removed and reinstalled DUN. Repaired IE, reset to defaults. Update to 5.5 was the first thing i did (it was IE 4 running on win95 ) I have not run any adware stuff yet tho. gonna try that now...

I'd suggest searching
1. the registry
2. your "hosts." file
3. the entire hard disk
for "

http://www.murdercreek.com"

or "murdercreek.com"

hopefully, the results of this should point you in the path of recovery

As you're a pro in a tek-tips forum, I'm sure I don't have to remind you to backup before making changes to the registry. so i won't.

what i don't understand is the repair tool SHOULD have fixed that. that is what it has been good for in the past for me. however, what manarth said would/should be the next step. good luck, if this don't work and you really did all you said the next step for me would be format/restore. :-(
