OK, I'm technical enough that I should be able to figure this out, but it's driving me insane.

I have a new laptop, running XP Pro and IE 6.0 SP2. Every time I open a new IE window, the window is sized so that it takes up only the top half of my screen, like this:

How can tell IE to always open windows maximized??

Steve

Click, hold, and drag the edges of the window until it fills your monitor screen. Now, go to File > Close

The next time you start IE, your window should be appropriately sized.

or, rather, simply Maximize your window, then Close using the File Menu

OK, that was easy enough. Nice little hidden feature. :)

Can you confirm it works using the maximize button? I had the idea that it only works if you resize the window manually prior to closing

Cheers,
Dian

Not quite sure. It seems to work for the next "new" window I open, but if I open another window via a link (target="_new"), it's still small.

Hmm, OK, on second thought, perhaps this doesn't work. What I'm seeing is this:

If I open an IE window, maximize, then close, the next window I open is maximized. But, if I use a window that opens subsequent windows (for example, my web e-mail opens hyperlinks in a new window), that secondary window is still sized strangely.

Any other thoughts??

It's been a while since I used M$, but I seem to remember somewhere in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/software/microsoft/...maybe IE (use regedit) there were values for positioning. Maybe someone could cofirm that.

It usually doesn't work with the maximize button. With only 1 IE window open, drag the edges to make the window as large as you'd like. Close it & it will stick.
