I can't view hotmail, can't view gmail, can't view windowsupdate, can't even install google toolbar... search for files/folders (locally) doesn't work either. I tried to reinstall, following uninstall instructions first, but the download stops after 3700k is dled.

how can I freshly reinstall IE and/or get my updates outside of using a browser?

it's basically like javascript won't work...

it appears php wont work either...

Get the IE6 browser with SP1 from one of the CDs in a computer magazine at your newsagent. Do your uninstall and run the setup file from the CD for IE.

Claudius (What certifications??)

I was able to fix it from some help from someone on another board, and just incase anyone else needs help with this, here's what he recommended (the specific fix that helped me was using the command line to execute an install):

To install an updated version of Windows scripting host:

-------------------------------------

To reinstall IE from the XP CD, insert the CD, Exit if it autostarts, go to Start > Run, and type:
rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 C:\windows\inf\ie.inf

--------------------------------------

To reinstall IE6 SP1, so you don't need to get all the updates to IE since the version on the CD came out, go to Start > Run, and type: regedit
Find this registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}

Change the value of the REG_DWORD Is Installed to 0.

Then, go to this site and download the IE6 SP1 installer and run it. You will need to be connected to the internet for the needed installation files to download, but you won't need to use a browser. In fact, the setup file will fit on a floppy and can be loaded after being downloaded from another computer.
