IE unable to initialize JRE

I have a user that receives the following error message any time he uses any site that tries to initialize a Java applet.

IEXPLORE.EXE - Application Error
The instruction at "0x74986b37" referenced memory at "0x00000024". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program.


Here's what I have tried so far:
Reinstalling Java Runtime Enviroment
Spyware sweeps using Spybot and Ad-Aware
Verify proper display settings (recommended on a Java site)

Also to note, the user recently had their profile rebuilt due to other issues he was having on his PC. Would there be any profile setting that would apply to this issue?
