IE tries to open when i start up windows

Problem is when windows kicks in and my desktop appears i get this IE Window trying to open, its been happening for about 2 months and now it's begining to 'P' me off, i've removed everything form the start up folder, and it still kicks in.
can anybody tell me 1. why it's doing it and 2. how do i get rid of the bloody thing.

check win.ini and system.ini for run= and load= commands. If in doubt get the Ball Pein Hammer out

Try running System Information from start>accessories>System tools>system information then click view and select advanced. click startup programs, then in the right hand pane check if there are any links to Iexplore if there are look to the right of that line and you should see the registry key it uses, then if your happy editing the registry delete that key.

Hi,

Try go to Control Panel --> Add Remove Programs

Uninstall Internet Explorer 5.0. It will be reverted to Internet Explorer 4.0, then go to microsoft webpage to download IE 5.5.

just wanted to thank everybody who responded to my plea.

in the end i had to reinstall win 98, but the tips i got gave me a few things to play with.
