IE "stopped"

hay, i've been reading how to remove IE (Internet Explorer) from my computer cause I moved to Firebird, but I raad somewhere that IE is used for everything in Windows, its used to explor your file, some microsft programs need it just cause they can. But I hate IE, i get popups every 30 seconds, I know, I know, "shouldn't be going to websites that install popups" But the fact it once you get them there is NO turning back unless you wont to do a total system reinstall. So i was wondering is there anyway to prevent IE from being used as an internet sorce? stop if from becoming the popup gateway? i mean if your go in and delete the files, they reapear 2 seconds later its kind fun. but does anyone have any ideas on stopping IE from being use for internet purposes?

Right click on your start bar and select properties. Click the "start menu" tab and the customize button. At the bottom is "show on start menu". The internet is probably set to IE. You should be able to select firebird from here. Not sure if this does it for all things, but you should now default on your menu icon to firebird.

Messing with IE in XP is calling down a load of trouble on yourself. Give that idea up.

There are several paths you need to explore.
One is to turn off windows messenger service, like so:

Now, turn off system restore. This way, things won't regenerate after you remove them. How to:

The next is to do a thorough adware/spyware scan removal on your machine. Use the following tools after updatting each:

Your condition is far from terminal, you just ned to clean up a bit.
