For some strange reason, when I start my computer and get ready to open a folder, say "my computer" or "my documents" I get an error message from Internet Explorer saying that it has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. I'm unable to access my folders, or the MSN homepage because of this, and it results in me having to restart the computer (up to 5 times so far) just to prolong the message so I can get what I need to do done, and sooner or later when I'm online it will say it again. Does anyone know why this is?? :-(

I appreciate your help!!!!

Does the error say IExplore or Explorer?
You don't say which OS or version of IE you run...but they are pertinent to solving the problem.

However, IE and the OS are so bound together that errors in one of them are commonly caused by the other.

Some installations of IE have a repair option available in AddRemovePrograms...some do not. I won't go into the list of which do and which don't, but you may have that option.

Running Win98 I recently had problems similar to yours and found that an "overwrite" install of IE 6.0 fixed it.
When downloading IE 6.0 I chose to download the files and install it later...which saves you having to do it again IF you need to accomplish this.
