I installed my OS, IE in the following sequence

Install Windows NT 4 Workstation (Shipped with IE2/3)
Install SP6a
Install Office 2000
Whilst installing Office 2000, office upgrades IE to verion 4.01
Install Office SP1
Install Office SP2
Install IE5.5 SP2

At no stage do I get my 'active desktop', nor could I select active desktop from View->Options from an opened windows. There are no quick-launch bars either!

However, folders like
d:\winnt\profiles\userName\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch exists, this folder contains Shortcut to Outlook Express.

How could I get my quick launch bar back.

Also, when Office installed IE 4 for me, it put it without asking me to d:\Program Files\Plus!\Microsoft Internet

When I installed IE5.5 SP2, I chose for it to be installed at f:\Program Files\Plus!\Micrsoft Internet, but it did not take out d:\Program Files\Plus!\Microsoft Internet. Could I not savely delete d:\Program Files\Plus!\Microsoft Internet??

drkestrel,

You should have checked to see if Active Desktop was working after the IE4.01 update.

A friend has a site where you can downlaod a fix. Download the NTDesktopUpdate.zip file from:

I'd don't think it's a good idea to install Internet explorer anyehere but the C:\Program Files\Internewt Explorer directory.

You realize it's a part of Windows, not just a seperate application.
