IE hangs when viewing pages

I'm using internet explorer 6.0. Lately, everytime load IE or go to a site, the browser freezes for a few seconds before loading the site. It won't let me click anything for a feew and then i can use it. i viewed the task manager (i'm using xp) and my cpu is running at 35% and that's with only the browser running. I will try to run ad-aware and spybot, but i'm not sure if these programs will find the culprit. Does anyone know of this problem?

thanks bcastner but my actual problem seems to have resolved itself. I think it was an ISP issue actually.
