Hi,

I have a broadband cable connection, and I have to use a proxy to connect to the IE. All works fine.

To connect to my company's network, we use a VPN connection.

Before connecting to the VPN. Ie works ok. After connecting to the VPN, IE stops working.

As MIS, and router specialist, I checked the connectivity and routing tables of my PC.
Before VPN : default route: 192.168.1.1 (my broadband router) and my ip=192.168.1.1
After VPN : default route: 192.168.1.1 (my broadband router) and my ip=192.168.1.1. route added to the 192.168.2.0/24 network (my vpn IP=192.168.2.110)

When I tracert to a server on the internet, it goes over the broadband router.
C:\>tracert -d 194.7.155.162

Tracing route to 194.7.155.162 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.1.1
2 41 ms 19 ms 17 ms 213.118.169.1
3 8 ms 7 ms 9 ms 10.32.43.1
4 14 ms 15 ms 6 ms 10.31.1.105
5 14 ms 10 ms 15 ms 213.224.253.146
etc...

C:\>ping 194.7.155.162

Pinging 194.7.155.162 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 194.7.155.162: bytes=32 time=54ms TTL=116
Reply from 194.7.155.162: bytes=32 time=51ms TTL=116
Reply from 194.7.155.162: bytes=32 time=50ms TTL=116
Reply from 194.7.155.162: bytes=32 time=43ms TTL=116

Ping statistics for 194.7.155.162:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 43ms, Maximum = 54ms, Average = 49ms

This looks very good. Even a telnet session to the proxy server works. I can GET a page using 'telnet proxy.server.xx 80' and issue 'GET
BUT BUT BUT BUT
IE Fails to work !
I didn't change anything on the IE settings or whatever.
It seems to me like that IE always uses the dialup connection, even if the routing tables says different !

I tried this on 3 different ccomputers, with a mix of Win2k, WinXP, IE6, IE5, IE5.5, all with the same result !

Can anyone advise me on this ?

thx

Pieter

Does your company have an intranet as well? If so does IE fail finding intranet pages as well as internet? joegz
