IE error (mshtml.dll) when trying to access secure site

I have a user running W2000 with IE version 6.0.2800.1106 . She can access the Internet OK, but gets an error page (send/dont' send) whenever she attempts to access a secure site. I ran Windows update to make everything current and ran Spybot, which reportedly fixed all problems found.
The details of the error message report that the problem is with mshtml.dll.
