This is my personal machine at home, connected to the net
through the cable modem. Internet explorer, when launched, loads the home
page or whatever page I tell it to load just fine. When I press enter on a
link, I get the page cannot be displayed page. Clicking refresh doesn't
work. Clicking detect setings does not work. If I click back, I get an
error dialog box that says cannot open page, the program was marshalled for
another thread. Pressing OK in this box brings you into limbo until you alt
f4 out of ie. I have emptied the temporary files folder and the history. i
ran the ie5 re[pair utility and uninstalled ie5.01 to go back to straight
ie5, (this is win98 second edition), and it still doesn't fix it. i ran
Norton WinDoctor and it found 80 registry errors, fixed all but 8 and now
it works erratically, i.e. sometimes it will go to web pages normally, but
other times it won't work. This phenomennon happens on all pages, no matter
what. I can go to the cakewalk page, yahoo, or whatever, and the first page
works, but subsequent pages do not. I am thinking it is an operating system
error and could be time to reinstall everything, but I want to see if the
people here have any ideas I haven't thought of.

Have you checked the DNS settings for your ISP?
Do they use a proxy? Cheers,
Jim

If you force a refresh of the homepage does it reload? It may just be cached locally. What O/S are you using?

hi,
If i force to reload ... it doesn't do that ...
it again says that the page can't be loaded ..
well , I have another browser called "netcaptor" .... initially it couldn't load but now it loads properly ..
& i am happy with the layout of this browser..
well I am happy to receive soln's to my problem ..

thanx

Because of the error message you have been getting which is not a common one, I think your initial conclusion is correct. Since IE is tied into Win98 so much, only a reinstall from start will fix it fully I'm afraid.
