I reinstalled NT on a workstation and applied SP 6a. Now Internet Explorer does not start. Everything else seems OK. Any ideas? I tried MS website, but the one reasonable looking solution did not work -- namely, enforcement of shell extensions.

Any error messages? What version I.E.?

You stated "reinstalled" NT....was that over the top of an existing installation?

Was IE reinstalled before the SP6 install? Due to the fact that these 3 installs (NT, IE, SP6) contain common files with different versions it may be very difficult to recover from version mismatch problems...depending on the order of installation/reinstallation.

Again, depending on the procedure you chose..you may want to uninstall SP6, uninstall IE (if possible)..reinstall IE and then SP6.

This is just conjecture on my part as I do not have the complete picture of your install.

let us know.
Or install IE 5. I said Option Pack 4 since I inferred you are running IIS on your Server. Check this out
<A HREF=" TARGET="_new">
John Durbin

<a href= Certified Professional VFP Programmer
ICQ VFP ActiveList #73897253

OK, here's how I fixed it -- found out thru error messages as I was uninstalling IE5 the there were problems with comctl32.dll and grpconv.exe (could not find ordinal 414) in the system32 directory. It would not allow me to uninstall IE5. So I got other later copies of these two files from a workstation where I had applied SP 6a and substituted them for what was on the problem machine. Voila -- IE5 now works. I would have thought that SP 6a would have replaced these files with later versions, like it did on the other machine, but it did not. Oh well. Another tidbit -- this machine would not properly install a video driver until I applied SP 6a. Se la vie and keep your fingers crossed.
