Hello all,

I have a stand alone computer with four users. OS XP.
Administrator can access internet clicking on IE icon on desktop. Log off and log back on with another user (limited) click on IE icon he gets can not open page.
If limited users are changed to administrators then click on IE icon they get their home page and can surf the net. We have other XP computers that have no problems accessing internet with limited users. They don't get an access denied message so we have no permissions problem. They get no home page = no surfing.

Any tips?
Thanks, spool

smah,

Thanks for the info. I am going to try it when I get back to that computer some time today. I'll post back with my findings.

Is there a reason that this happened? Was something changed by a user that caused this? By default, any time a new limited user I created after the default administrator account was created with the internet connection setup, they could access the internet using the IE icon from their desktop. This is new to me.

Hello everyone,

First, Internet connection is DSL not Dial up. I did the changes to registry per smah's post. Still can't get the internet browser to work on limited user accounts only administrator account's. When the browser is opened I get "page can not be displayed". I set IE back to it's default state. No luck.

Outlook Express works and receives E-mail from users account set up at the ISP.

Except for setting limited user accounts there have been no permissions of any kind set up on this computer.

In Network Connections, Local area Connection says it's enabled. Can't change anything because account is limited.
That's the way the owner want's it. He wants everyone to be limited users except him-self.

Any ideas? Thanks

copy this into notepad, and save it as ie_fix.reg:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll

Logon as each user and try the repair.

has anybody had any luck with any of these fixes? I have tried all and still have the same problem--- only admin accounts can access internet through IE6sp1. I can even login as a limited user, then right-click iexplore.exe, choose "run as", login as admin and get out to the internet. so, one would think that it has something to do with account restrictions, but all policy settings are in the "not configured" (untouched) state.

thanks for any help.

I haven't had time to do the repair that bcastner suggested. I won't get to the computer that has this problem till some time next week. I will post back my findings. If this does not work it looks like I will have to do a complete repair of Internet Explore.

Thanks, Spool
