I have IE5.01 installed on Windows 2000 SP1.

The problem is that quite occassionally (can't track down how or why), when opening web pages, I see the HTML tags and then on refreshing, I get an error showing up in dialog box saying there is something wrong with the Microsoft Internet Extensions. I am sure connection is fine. As connecting with another PC(running IE5 SP1 on NT4 SP6a) is fine.

I have the following applied:
q273868, a269368, q290108, q265258, a268465

My IE Version number is 5.00.3103.1000

I also got problems connecting to some HTTPS sites.

I do have IE5.01 SP1 installed. I want to hold on to IE5.5 [sure there are some nice features, and more bugs as well :) ]

Anyway
The sequence of event is,
1) Browse as normal
2) on opening a page and get error
Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site <web site> The connection with the server was reset
3) On refresh, I may get errors
Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site <site name>. An internal error occurred in the Windows Internet Extensions.

4) Once I get errors in 3), then there is no way of getting out of it. Sometimes, closing all IE5 windows and restarting may help.

I found the following two links from Microsoft Knowledgebase, but they do not relates to Windows 2000 and I do not use Net.Medic.

Next guess is a lousy ISP, and/or lousy connection to the ISP, and/or lousy driver for your modem.
Windows has a habit of throwing up totally irrelevant error messages when something goes wrong. (A good example is the "out of memory" error when the hard drive is full!)
Can you tell us what modem and chipset and ISP you have, as well as typical connect speed, port settings, or copy and paste the modem log as well as your ATi 3 and ATi6 responses?
Might help narrow it down, if we can eliminate the modem, then eliminate the browser, and find a windows setting (or corrupt .dll or .vxd) somewhere... Cheers,

Let me have a look at the log..

but is it typical for Microsoft Knowledge Base to not include the 'Affected OS: Windows 2000' in their articles?? Not to say by any means that I am definitely sure my error is related in anyways to the 2 articles.
