IE back button doesn't work

Has anyone encountered the problem where the back button in IE does NOTHING. It will not go back at all. Even after clicking on the drop down arrow and selecting a previous page, it refuses to go to that page. No error msgs at all. It justs does nothing. Had IE6 and tried downgrading to 5.5 but still the same result. Upgraded back up to IE 6 sp1, still doesn't work. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks
