Hi,

I am having a problem with my IE6 and so far unable to solve it. Since a couple of months bak, I am unable to load pages which have an applet embedded in them. When I load any page with an applet via browser, I get some warnings and then an error.

Warning: Java plug-in 1.4.2_04 is not installed properly. This repeats twice after which I am shown another warning: Applet(s) in this HTML page require a version of java different from the one the browser is currently using. In order to run the applet in this html page, a new browser session is requred, press "YES" to start a new browser session.

Clicking YES, simply repeats the whole thing, nothing else.. If I click NO, the page loads the fwg error:
JAVA PLUG-IN DETECTED JRE COLLISION

I tried uninstalling Java completely from my machine and reinstalled from and voila, everything works great for a few days and suddenly the problem starts all over again.. :(

I checked for Spyware/ malware in the machine but none was encountered. I figure I know what the problem is but cant think of a good solution.

I have downloaded and installed J2SDK in one dir. I later intalled BEA weblogic ( it came with its own jdk ) and later on someother software which was using a diff JDK..

I think one or all of these is causing a conflict.. Is there anyway I can specify IE to use a particular JRE or something ?? This has become a extremely annoying and frustrating problem.

any suggestions ?

thnx in adv,

Take a look at your Control Panel (Start > Control Panel) Do you have two entries for "Java Plug-In"?

If yes then double click on each in turn and find the older of the two versions, by looking at the About Tab. Once you have the older version click on the Browser tab and untick the "Microsoft Internet Explorer" box. Click on Apply and then close out.

If you only have a single copy in control panel, what version is it?

I have only 1 copy of Java plug-in and it seems to be corrupted.

On double cliking it, an error message pops up:

The System cannot find the registry key specified:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java plug-in\1.4.1_01\JavaHome

I inserted a new String Value called JavaHome and pointed it to c:\jdk but clicking Java plug-in in ctrl panel now gives a diff error:

Java Virtual Machine launcher:
Cannot find main class. program exiting...

any help !?

thnx

Ah Solved it!

Was pointing JavaHome to the wrong location..

Thnx a bunch gpalmer!
