I inherited a web site that has a Flash/Shockwave navigation system. With any other browser it requires just a single mouse click "activate" a menu item. With IE, it takes a double mouse click to activate the item. Additionally, in non-IE browsers, the roll-over effect (slight color change) works as intended. With IE, this roll-over effect doesn't work at all. I get the same reaction with IE6 as well as IE7.

Any clues?

Thanks...

The first click gives the flash object focus, then the rollovers should work in IE... That said, Flash shouldn't be used for navigation or content if your at all interested in being accessible to assistive technologies and text-only browsers. I'd do away with it, if you can; in favor of HTML menus and content.

I couldn't agree with you more - flash has a place in the web industry but a navigation system such as this is definately not one of those places. That being said - it's ironic that this occurs ONLY with IE. FF, MZ, Opera, Safari, NS and others work as intended.

That's because of the browser, not the html/css or flash. IE, since one of the security updates, requires the user to activate all foreign objects on the page, such as a flash object. This does not mean that it does not work. It just means that users need to go over the page and click on all flash objects if they want to see them.
