IE 7 cannot display web pages but Firefox, Opera can!

Hi,

I rarely use IE but decided to upgrade to 7. Since doing so, IE 7 always returns that it cannot display the web page - for every page I try to go to.

Funny thing is that I'm online with Firefox and Opera and I can get to pages no problem. My old IE 6 didn't have a problem either.

So my questions is: why is IE 7 acting like I'm offline and unable to connect to websites when I'm clearly online visiting websites with Firefox and Opera at the same time?!

Chances are it was a bad installation or possibly caused by an incompatible add-on. Running IE in no add-ons mode will let you know if an add-on is causing the problem.

Maybe also check if you have a firewall installed, and if IE is set as being blocked from accessing the net.

I ran it in no add-ons and it still couldn't display any web pages. I have a D-Link router (DI-524) but couldn't see anything in the filters about blocking IE7. That's my only firewall and it looks like it's not even enabled in the router because it wants an IP range. I've got all anti-virus and spyware removal stuff turned off.

I would suspect a failed installation. Try reinstalling, and make sure any anti-spyware & 3rd party firewalls are disabled. You can even install in safe mode, just to be sure.

I was looking at my router and saw many dropped packets from a Peer-to-Peer program I don't really use anymore (LimeWire). I uninstalled LimeWire and IE7 was immediately able to connect to web pages!

Very strange. Anyways, if anyone else has this problem, they might want to consider this solution.
