I'm trying to fix a laptop with an irritating problem.
IE 6 won't connect to anything that uses SSL; that is it will not find any https: sites. It will go say to hotmail but when you enter username and password it will come back with page not found just because it switches to https during authentication. I downloaded Opera and that works.

Uninstalled and reinstalled IE in XP (not really, just hid it), reset defaults, ran adaware 6 with new reflist--just won't fix it. I was going to do windows update and as expected, that did not work-it requires https during scan for updates. grrrr!

I saw this question asked before but not as clear--IE6 and Hotmail horror. There was no solution there.

Any help appreciated before I re-image this machine as a final resort.

Follow bcastner's link first, but if you can't find the answer in the secure sites section of that page, do some more reading here:

smah, thanks for the notice. The link used to vector directly to the secure site discussion. I have no idea why it does not anymore.

The section is still a good checklist.
