We have IE 6 sp1 on W2kPro PC's. when users go on line the browser just hangs for 10-15 seconds, or sometimes doesn't open at all.
I have installed netscape 7.01 on 1 test pc and it goes on line without any problems.
Most of the problems happen when you go onto a secure web site. wachovia.com,, e-trade.com or even ebay.
But it also happens on msn.com as well. I can time the 2 and netscape opens a good 10-15 seconds faster almost everytime.on any site!
Any ideas why IE6 hangs??
We have our proxy on an NT4.0 server
Thanks in advance,
JerryS

This sounds like malware, non-virus, and your NAV did not see it.

Download and run in this order:

cwshredder *
SpyBot 1.2 *
AdAware *

* = Update the definition files within the program as the first step.

Step #2: download a do a clean/repair of your Winsock service entries using this utility:
If you still have the problem, download and run Hijack This! and post the log here.

I did the spybot but I dont think this is the problem. I have about 75 users that are complaining about it being slow. It seems like it mostly does it with SSL. or secure sites on IE 6 SP1 not on the Netscape 7.01
Below is the HijackThis log....

Have u gotten W2K patched as much as possible?
What encryption level is IE set at?

JerryUSA, it could also be that the site is written to support IE and Netscape. And depending on what browser you use a different set of files are used to display the site. If the IE code has special scripts, activeX, etc it has much more to compile and transmit. The Netscape code may have much less to load. And thus the sites would be slower with IE than with Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, etc.

And SSL has to encrypt and decrypt on both ends of the connection so it is always slower. If it's fast in every browser other than IE it's probably the sites design.

Yes I have all the lastest patches on W2K. Just did them on Monday. When I go to a secure site it hangs for a long time on IE6. most times not even opening. But I will open Netscape and the same site opens right up and runs.
I spoke with Wachovia.com and they said its just me.
It is causing a major problem for our finance department cause they use this site all the time. And out of 10 people none of them can get on the site for more than 2-3 pages. than it just hangs and never loads. But I loaded Netscape on 1 test pc and it zips right along.
I thought it may be something with our Proxy server. But all looks ok (not too familiar with it).
The ports are open for SSL (443/444 I think)and also port 80.
Another example is if we go to mail.yahoo.com and log on to check email then close down the window. Now everytime after that we have to log on again. Netscape you can do this again and again and never log in for up to 8-10 hours. This also just started happening.
Something is wrong, and I beleive it's on our end. I just can't figure it out...
Thanks for the help, Keep it coming..
