I have a Win2000 PC that has a problem with IE 6. This person had their PC on a DSL/Cable modem line and does not have any security or firewall setup.

Somewhere along the way his home page was changed, and he's not able to change in back.

(It's coming up with a google site, but all attemps to change this have been unsuccessful)

Also, I think he has McAfee Firewall software installed, but not configured. Is this a good Firewall? If not any ideas?

Thanx.

sorry i don't understand your problem...

do you have the suspicion that someone has accessed the win2k-machine from the internet and changed the webside or what? and if i want to visit this side i will see the side?

search the websides-sourcecode for the string "google" it should appear somewhere in that code!

mcafee should be a good solution for a personal firewall i think. patrick.metz@epost.de

Some web pages will default your browser to themselves without permission if you have low settings in the security tab of IE. Clear the cookies, set all security to default, and set the home page to the one you want. If after doing this you still have the same problem, then there is a program running out of the startup folder that is changing it, or there is a registry entry that is calling a process that is changing the default home page. Normally when I have somebody with this problem, they have inadvertently downloaded a program that said it was something else. (Or they were playing too close to the porn!) Grin. Hope this helps!

To answer your question (frag) - it is my suspicion that someone DID access that machine from the internet and did something to not allow any changes to the homepage option. I've changed the security setting back to default and cleared the cookies, but this has not resolved the problem.

(willisfindley)Perhaps there is something in the system registry that might fix the problem, however, I would not know where to start.

Any futher help with this would be grately appreciated.
Best Regards,
Joseph Williams
