Hello!
Has anyone experienced probs with downloading a .mid as an attached file?
My IE 6 won't let me save the attached midi file, it keeps trying to play it using the WinMedia player and it can't do that either I get an error message #8007000D.

If I try to rightclick on the attachment > music.mid all I get is save file as getmsg.htm.
????????????
Solutions anyone Please??

thx mxw

Could it be that the midi file is too large to open within hotmail? I had that problem when I try to attach files to an email message to friends. Isn't there a very small cache available for email attachments?
Could you try to get the midi thru another source?

Hi Davini,

No ... I had a friend zip it for me and I downloaded it no problems.
Dunno what happened 'cause I used to be able to download attached .mid files from my hotmail using IE or Netscape. At some unknown point I lost that option. ?????

thanks for your reply

Hotmail has come up with a scheme to extort some money out of you. You only get 2MB of email storage unless you pay Microsoft $19.95 per year for more storage. They probably decreased your storage capacity from what it used to be if your not paying the ransome money.
They emailed me this notice:

Don’t let your account freeze up!

Did you know that if your account goes over the 2MB storage limit, it will automatically be frozen? That means:
You won’t be able to send any messages
All e-mails sent to you will bounce back without notification

Your account will stay frozen until you delete enough e-mail to put you under the 2MB limit. Then, you'll need to keep monitoring it to make sure you stay well under the limit.

The better option is to sign up for MSN® Extra Storage. For only $19.95* per year (less than $2 a month) MSN Extra Storage gives you 10MB of storage — five times what you’re getting today. It's the easiest way to avoid a frozen account.
I could be wrong, so don't hold that against me. At least I'm trying! I hope I've helped in some way........

Well ahhh ... where did I take that left turn? Please let me try to explain my problem again.

Someone emails my Hotmail with an attached midi file. This is okay. They have attached it as a .mid and I must mention that I have never recieved one that is over 80k in size :)
(I would prefer that they compress it first using WinZip, and most people do. However there are a few that get to me in .mid format) I didn't used to have a problem downloading the .mid file to my harddisk. But now I do. Both browsers want to play the file??? that bugs me. hehe
I don't have a problem saving the .mid to file if the midi is embedded on a page (right-click Save target as/or Save link as). Which is why this is so puzzling to me that the browser can handle that but if I go into hotmail it seems to mess-up.

thx

(I'm having other probs with IE too, but I think I'll try to figure them out one at a time for now and solve this midi thing first)

If you're having other problems, too, you might try a repair, but you said both of your browsers did this. What plays the file, Win Media Player or what? Maybe there is an option on .mid files to auto play or something like that. Just guessing....... I could be wrong, so don't hold that against me. At least I'm trying! I hope I've helped in some way........

Hey thanks for replying .... I guess I should try just fixing the play midi thing first. Dah! Then maybe my email would work. LOL
I'll be back ...
thanks again.

You will find some revealing items using a "google" search on the words "getmsg download hotmail cgi" all being part of the Javascript code responsible for communicating with Hotmail. This article discusses a hotmail exploit using the hotmail login scripts
and I am looking at the possibility of a trojan.

The only other possibility for the problem I'm trying to resolve on a friend's PC (same problem as yours but with any file type) is a failed download of Realplayer (version 7?) which may have corrupted the registry.

There is also suggestion that QuickView Plus can cause conflicts of this nature although this page doesn't mention it
but does list some very troublesome programmes

DO YOU USE NETSCAPE?????????????

If so, HOLD SHIFT AND CLICK ON THE ATTACHMENT that will force Netscape to save the file. Works every time for any file. [deejay]
