ie 6.0 validating XML

I am trying to use IE 6.0 to validate an XML document. It seems to work ok when I use a DTD but always says validation successful when I try it with a Schema. Even when the data or schema has been deliberately altered to be incorrwect. In fact IE returns a sucessful message if I try to validate the XML with out a DTD or Schema.
Has anybody else run into this problem - I am wondering if I need to configure IE somehow to make it use an XML Schema to validate XML data?
